My choice of the month is Sonny Rollins with the song Softly as i a morning sunrise. Live from the Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village, New York. The recording was made on November 3, 1957. There are two sessions done that day. The first one with Don Bailey (bass) and Pete Laroca (drums). This version is made by Sonny, Wilbur Ware (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums). It has become a very nice evening with the trio at the top of his plays. Because no chordal instrument plays there’s an incredibly open sound. The fact that there is a bass intro in the song and a beautiful, melodic bass solo (from 2min30) played definitely helps my favorite for this month.
